The Fondazione del Teatro Grande is pleased to announce that from Saturday, March 25 at 10.00 AM the sale of tickets for the opera Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini will be officially open to the public. The opera will debut exceptionally this summer, in July.

The opening of the Opera and Ballet Season 2023 will therefore be dedicated to a title historically very dear to the Teatro Grande: in May 1904 in Brescia, after the unexpected fiasco of the Milanese premiere, the new version – the “bresciana” one – achieved ainternational success and sanctioned the immortality of Puccini’s masterpiece.

The show will be a new staging (international co-production Teatro di OperaLombardia, Teatro del Giglio di Lucca, Estonian National Opera) in which will be proposed the second edition of the opera, that will debut on the stage of the Teatro Grande on July 20 at 8.00 pm with a repeat on July 22 at 6.00 pm and Premiere on July 17 at 5.00 pm.

The title role will played by Eleonora Buratto (after this year’s debut at the Metropolitan in the role). One of the most famous Italian conductors in the world will be conducting the orchestra: Maestro Riccardo Frizza. The opera will be directed by the talented Greek director Rodula Gaitanou, in continuation of that “pink thread” that distinguishes the three opening regias of the 2022-2024.

Tickets for the show will be available at the Teatro Grande Ticket Office and online on teatrogrande.it and vivaticket.com from Saturday 25 March. A student ticket is discounted at 50% of the full price. The Teatro Grande Box Office is open from Tuesday to Friday from 1.30pm to 7pm, Saturday from 10 am to 13 pm and from3 pm to 7 pm.

On the occasion of the important event of the Capitale Italiana della Cultura, the Teatro Grande opens its extraordinary artistic heritage through special visits that will give visitors the opportunity not only to discover the magnificent spaces of the Theatre, but also to know anecdotes and curiosities that have made the Teatro Grande famous all over the world.

“Rien n’est plus joli” wrote Stendhal in 1823 in his Vie de Rossini describing the beauty of the spaces of the Grande. Over the years, in addition to establishing itself as the main city theater, the Teatro Grande has been declared a well of important historical and artistic interest, with particular reference to the spaces of the Sala Grande and the Ridotto. During the 20th century the Grande acquired an increasing importance even among national theaters until, in the 70s, the Italian State identified it as one of the Italian Theatres of Tradition, recognizing for the first time the cultural functions, social and educational activities of music, programming and opera production.

The visits will be scheduled during the weekends and will give visitors the opportunity to admire the Ridotto – one of the most evocative architectural wonders of the city of Brescia – the Sala Grande with its unmistakable layout, and the splendid Sala delle Statue, recently restored with its over 200 years of history.

Tickets can be purchased on teatrogrande.it or at the Theatre ticket Office at a cost of € 8 per person (discount for Under30 to €5). The visits last 45 minutes, accessible from the main entrance of the Theatre (corso Zanardelli, 9).

The Fondazione del Teatro Grande di Brescia presents the 2023 Season, a single multidisciplinary great Season that will attract the greatest artists in the world, from famous conductors to well-known choreographers, as well as young talents. A billboard that grows both in quality and in quantity compared to the usual Season to respond to the special event of 2023.

Along the lines drawn by the strategic design of Bergamo Brescia 2023, high-level programming will be dedicated to quality, internationality, territory, excellence and youth, so as to make the territory of Brescia a national and international excellence thanks to shows and concerts of high artistic value with emblematic characters of the cultural scene. A strategic opening of the Theatre, which will include, alongside the preservation and enhancement of tradition, an innovation of languages and formats, with a particular attention to a new audience. The path that the Fondazione has started since its inception, begins from the reflection on what can be today the role of a historical institution, on what can be the cultural, civil and social function of a “Teatro di Tradizione” that must be confronted with the change of society and territory, the diversification of the public, its tastes and its habits. The 2023 edition thus becomes a forum for reflection to be shared with artists and the public. The occasion of the Capitale della Cultura will make even stronger the positioning of the Teatro Grande as a center of creative excellence and a place for sharing experiences, also with a view to shared sociality.

Tickets and special booklets for all Music and Dance performances of the 2023 Season will be on sale from Friday 9 December* at the Teatro Grande Box Office and online.
