Lezioni di Storia | Invenzioni | Silvia Ferrara. La scrittura

The new edition of Lezioni di Storia, the history-focused project organized by the Teatro Grande in collaboration with Editori Laterza, is dedicated to Inventions.

To understand how writing was born, we must take a leap back more than 5,000 years and travel tens of thousands of kilometers through China, Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Maya peoples; and then end our journey on Easter Island, where a writing system seems to have been invented from scratch. But that is not enough: we must go even further back in time to understand how the first signs were invented and how they speak to us about our imagination, our visual perception, and our relationship with the world around us.

Silvia Ferrara teaches Mycenaean Philology and Aegean Civilizations at the University of Bologna.

With the participation of actress Elena Vanni.
