The new edition of Lezioni di Storia, the history-focused project organized by the Teatro Grande in collaboration with Editori Laterza, is dedicated to Inventions.
From the Persian Wars to today’s self-glorification, the myth that there exists a “West” in opposition to all others (the Greeks referred to them as “barbarians”) has thrived as a Manichaean interpretation of human history. It is time to deconstruct a self-deception whose mystifying apparatus enters into crisis every time the West acknowledges reality.
Luciano Canfora has been a Greek and Latin Philology professore at the University of Bari.
