Lezioni di Storia | Invenzioni | Alessandro Vanoli. La bussola

The new edition of Lezioni di Storia, the history-focused project organized by the Teatro Grande in collaboration with Editori Laterza, is dedicated to Inventions.

They say it was born in Amalfi, but that is not entirely true. The history of the compass is that of the encounter between cultures that took place on the oceans around the 10th century among Chinese, Arab, Greek, and Latin travelers. An encounter that would forever change the fate of navigation by binding routes to winds and geographic directions. A story that begins with a magnetized needle and continues with the signs traced on nautical charts, up to the technological acceleration of the present day.

Alessandro Vanoli is a historian, writer, and popularizer.

With the participation of actress Elena Vanni.
