Nico, Desertshore is a dance concert inspired by the music, voice, and universe of Christa Päffgen, aka Nico. The tracks from her cult album Desertshore (1970) become the soundtrack for the performance, in which the dancers’ bodies construct a dense, restless visual landscape, traversed by echoes of memory and poetry. Giovanfrancesco Giannini presents the first emergence of this new research at the Teatro Grande, in a production conceived specifically for the Salone delle Scenografie. In a circular space, two figures never touch each other: they are silent guardians of the weight of existence and incommunicability. Their gestures reveal a fracture with reality, an inner scar that drives them elsewhere. Immersed in a suspended dimension, they dialogue with their own ghosts and dance within their solitude. Time expands into a rarefied timelessness, amplified by the sounds, noises, and songs performed by Nico, taken from Desertshore. A poetic journey through sound, memory, and dance. Desertshore vibrates with a radical austerity, a delicate existential anguish. Its progression evokes a humanity incapable of escaping its destiny; its solemnity is that of a cry that seems to rise from a remote place, coming from the depths of the centuries.
