Lezioni di Storia | Rebels | Maria Giuseppina Muzzarelli. Giovanna D’Arco, a woman in arms

She is a girl, but fights like a man; she is a Christian virgin, but wears men’s clothes; she feels a direct relationship with God, but does not recognise the mediation of the Church. Venerated as a saint, she has become a myth, and not only for the French. However, many questions remain unanswered about this young woman in arms who was burnt at the stake at the age of 19.

Maria Giuseppina Muzzarelli is Professor of Medieval History at the University of Bologna.

In collaboration with Editori Laterza.
With the participation of Elena Vanni and Chiara Continisio.
