La Gioconda

Another great female figure will be at the center of the third opera production of the Season, scheduled for the 18th and 20th November, at 8PM and 3.30PM. La Gioconda by Amilcare Ponchielli is a complex woman who, during the story set to music by the Cremonese composer on the libretto by Arrigo Boito, has to face harsh love stories against the backdrop of Venice, full of cloudy politics and scandals. Filippo Tonon will be called to stage the drama, while the conductor of the Orchestra of the Fondazione Arena di Verona will be Francesco Ommassini. Tonon is a director, set and costume designer, with a long experience as assistant to the most important Opera directors such as Zeffirelli, Pizzi, De Ana, before working as director himself in the most renowned opera houses in the world. He will be in charge also of the sets and costumes (these last ones together with Carla Galleri), while the choreographies will be curated by Valerio Longo and the light design by the experienced Fiammetta Baldiserri. The show will be a new set up, in co-production with the Theatre of Maribor, the Fondazione Arena di Verona, Massimo Bellini Theatre of Catania and the theatres of Opera Lombardia. The cast will be composed of Angelo Villari (Enzo), Teresa Romano (Laura), Angelo Veccia (Barnaba), Agostina Smimmero (La Cieca), Simon Lim (Alvise), Francesco Pittari (Isepo) e Allessandro Abis (Zuane). The title role is still to be defined.
