In partnership with Settimane Barocche di Brescia
Both works presented, separated more than three centuries and composed in very different musical languages, aim to narrate by leveraging their affections. Jephte di Carissimi, one of the masterpieces of the music literature of all time, is among the most accomplished examples of musical oratory, model for his contemporaries and for many composers over the centuries. The Little Match Girl Passion, awarded with the Pulitzer Prize in 2008, has been defined “one of the most striking scores of recent years” (New York Times). David Lang hangs on Baroque thinking in telling a story to engage the viewer, transforming Andersen’s fairy tale into a revisited form of Bachian passion.
