Virgilio Sieni approaches the famous Stravinsky-Nijinsky masterpiece with the objective of starting an exploration of fragmentation and composition of the choreographic body. In parallel, dancing the Rite represents for Sieni the opportunity to turn around some colonialist models present in Western choreography where rite is exclusively seen as a barbaric ritual.
In Prelude, the bodies appear both as matter and origin, recomposing a dictionary of primal movements and looking for the phenomena before the rite. The twelve interpreters who dance in Rite of Spring are asked to move following a continuum of echoes and rhythmical stratifications. In this space, created by hundreds of trajectories and defined by music, the eye of the observer is lost in a forest of gestures and sees in the distance the unknown that flows at the edge of life.
