On Thursday 13th and Saturday 15th December, the diptych La Voix Humaine by Francis Poulenc and Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni is staged for the Opera and Ballet Season. The first performance of La Voix Humaine took place on February 6^th, 1959, at the Opéra Comique in Paris, and has only been performed once in Brescia, in 2009. Cavalleria Rusticana made its debut on May 21^st, 1892, at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan and returns to the Grande after 15 years. The staging – co-produced by the theatres of OperaLombardia together with the Haydn Foundation of Bolzano and Trento – is a revival of the production by Emma Dante for the Teatro Comunale di Bologna: two unique acts in which the famous Sicilian director deals with two different ways of understanding ‘love and discovering the boundaries between reason and loss of mind, the pain of abandonment and the motivation of the tragedy being focused on the protagonists.’ The exhibition includes set by Carmine Maringola, costumes by Vanessa Sannino and lights by Cristian Zucaro. Conducting of the orchestra is entrusted to the baton of Francesco Cilluffo, a young but well-known director. The cast sees Teresa Romano and Angelo Villari as main actors – respectively in the roles of Santuzza and Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana – and the extraordinary voice of Anna Caterina Antonacci who is entrusted with the role of La voix humaine. For the second part we also see Giovanna Lanza (Lucia), Mansoo Kim (Alfio) and Francesca Di Sauro (Lola).
