2024 Opera and Ballet Season

Presented today the 2024 Opera and Ballet shows at the Teatro Grande.
Both will once again be protagonists of the traditional Season that every year brings thousands of spectators to the theatre in the autumn period through the staging of titles never performed or absent for many years from the stage of the Teatro Grande.

The opera titles on the bill this year are I Capuleti e I Montecchi by Vincenzo Bellini, La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini, Andrea Chénier by Umberto Giordano, Così fan tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Giselle is the Ballet that will be brought to the Grande stage by the Ballet of the National Opera of Ukraine.

All the opera titles will welcome the Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali and on stage the OperaLombardia Chorus directed by Maestros Massimo Fiocchi Malaspina and Diego Maccagnola. The Teatro Grande is in fact a partner in the OperaLombardia circuit, which constitutes a unique model on a national level for the co-production and circulation of operas. The project – supported by the Lombardy Region and the Cariplo Foundation – involves the five theatres of tradition in Lombardy (the Teatro Grande in Brescia, the Teatro Sociale in Como, the Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona, the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo and the Teatro Fraschini in Pavia) and has as partners the Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali and the Teatro alla Scala.

As a corollary to the Season, the initiatives aimed at educating and retaining the public are confirmed: the Pazzi per l’Opera lecture series with melomaniacs who narrate the plots of Opera and outline their characteristics and distinctive elements, In diretta dalla Scala (Live from La Scala) which will offer free streaming of the 7 December premiere, and Alla Scala con il Grande, thanks to which subscribers to the Teatro Grande’s Opera and Ballet Season will be able to attend some performances at reduced prices.

For all the titles of the Opera and Ballet Season, the OPEN accessibility project will also be active, with the aim of building dialogue and encouraging the participation of blind and deaf people in the area. From this year the project also intends to touch the sphere of cognitive disabilities for a continuous increase in inclusion practices. OPEN will make all the titles in the autumn programme accessible through the use of surtitles, the creation of audio descriptions for the blind and the activation of the Sennheiser Mobile Connect assisted listening system for the hearing impaired, which will be present in the auditorium and usable from smartphones. To improve understanding of the performance, LIS videos and tactile boards will also be produced and used during the multisensory paths dedicated to each title.

The 2024 Opera and Ballet Season will benefit from the valuable support of Intesa Sanpaolo, which will once again support the Season as an Institutional Partner.
